Musicafella is a band like no other and it comprises of these 3 gifted musicians: Meropa, Speedo & Arasoulsax.


With a blissful, hipnotic and timeless sound, Musicafella is a band that is highly versatile, able to accommodate any occasion. Whether it be a corporate event or shisa nyama Sunday chillout, Musicafella has the gift of the gods that enables them to cast a wicked spell through quality music, across any setting, environment or space.

Arafat Mphahlele aka ‘Arasoulsax’ was born on the 4th of June in the early 80’s in RSA. He’s known for his contributions around his community as volunteer worker, an artist (Instrumentalist and a Vocalist), graphic designer and entrepreneur in entertainment.

As a self taught musician, he started off his career in music as a Hip-Hop rapper and he also played the flute from a tender age of 11.  

From the mid 90’s he attended a music school in Alex were he explored and learned more about music and were he really found his passion as a flutist and a vocalist. In no time he was incorporated into a group called Live 101, which featured a lot of passionate young musicians such as Ketty Njngase, Clint Brink, Letang Hlome, PROVERB and many others. He had a lot of maestros such as Abdullah Ibrahim and the big band, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuze, Late Scorpion Mandondo, Johnny Mekwe and Pops Muhammad who influenced his style of playing and also got involved in some of their projects.

Arasoulsax started working with deejays including the likes of Dj Fresh, Vinny Da Vinci, Lulo Cafe, and many other underground deejays as a backing live element, along with Mpho who plays a violin, Meropa who is a percussionist, deejay and producer. Arasoulsax has also featured in other local artist's albums such as Mzi wa Africa, Darque, Mandla “Spikiri”.

Amongst his highest accolades, Arasoulsax started an acoustic African Nujazz group called Dice N Scarfs. The group featured Bloq (vocalist & lead guitarist) and Sister Flo (vocalist and bass guitarist). Together they won the coverted Battle of the Bands Polokwane in 2009.
